  3. Saved Routes can be created from the Route Detail, this allows the creation of a Saved Route on fibers that have not been terminated

FIXES

  1. Splice labeling options are now being saved correctly
  2. Span '0' is now the default span associated with a new Inner Duct
  3. Splice Key integrity checks have been limited to recently changed lines, this has greatly increased the speed of the Splice Key
  4. Route Detail Port drop down list is now showing labels for equipment ports
  5. Saved Route refresh button is now correctly refreshing the route view in the editor
  6. Splice Schematic now shows the correct cable span types
  7. Splice Spreadsheet is now longer show duplicating 'dead' fibers

TIPS

  1. When editing in the Termination Point Panel, make all the changes to User, Status and Priority that you want to push to all related ports first, hit apply, then continue with the editing you do not want pushed. The option to push has been moved to when apply is hit

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. There is a slight shift in the position of a custom map object when it is created
  2. The Route schematic is still disabled, pending further updates for stability and compatibility with the new data structure
  3. OSPInSight will periodically crash for unknown reasons. It seems to happen more frequently on some computers than others. Make sure you save your updates often, and back up your data. We are working on a fix for this issue.
  4. The Splice Key Editor populates and updates very slowly if the "only show strands that are not part of a saved route" option is selected.
Workaround: uncheck that option, and save the layout
  5. On some computers, editors, lists, reports and mapinfo windows (info tool, layer control) open behind the main OSPInSight window.
Workaround: Click the application near it's toolbars, or click the taskbar button for OSPInSight to pull those windows back up. We are working on a fix.
  6. The Taper report runs somewhat slower than it did in 6.0, since it runs routes one at a time, rather than based on groups. We are working on ways to improve it's performance.
  7. Deleting objects through the dataview right-click menu or the lists doesn't automatically save the map layer...meaning you should manually save it. This will be addressed in the next release.
Workaround: manually save the mapinfo layers after deleting from the right-click menu in the dataview or the lists.
  8. Sometimes when a user leaves a PC (while OSPInSight is running) long enough for it to lock, or for the screensaver to engage, OSPInSight will hang. When the user returns, he find he has to reboot to restore normal functionality to his computer. We are working on a fix for this
  9. Splitters are not being correctly shown in the Splice Schematic. We are working on a fix

OSPInSight Edit 7.0.27 Release Notes
02/Apr/2008

NEW FEATURES

  1. In the Splice Key you can double click a splice row to highlight the involved cable spans on the map. You can also select a splice row and then click the map button (it says N)

FIXES

  1. Dataview and dropdown list ordering in Oracle was out of order when all caps names were mixed with names that were not all caps.
  2. Opening a network after performing an Oracle Backup would fail
  3. Saved route wasn't showing the entire route
  4. Cable spans can now be added with QuickAdd enabled (other categories still need work to function with QuickAdd)
  5. Splice schematics didn't show the Splice Point name, only the objectid
  6. Midsheath operations would sometimes report duplicate SLA objects when there weren't any
  7. Clicking 'Open List' on a grouped treeview category would give an error about the saved query failing.
  8. Re-adding documents in a directory in the Document Editor (after updating the directory with new files, for example) would cause duplicate records
  9. Printing to Crystal Reports from lists was getting a Type Mismatch error
  10. The "Show Route" button in the Termination Assignments report didn't show the route details correctly
  11. Mass Saved Route editor would stop creating saved routes when it encountered a jack that was unchecked, even if jacks were checked further down
  12. If a field in the Display Options->Field Display was set to be bold, then OSPInSight would display the database field name, rather than the caption
  13. The Span.medium field wasn't populating when creating a new cable span if the medium field was not showing in the cable span editor
  14. Changing the type for an existing Access Point would not appropriately update the custom style, though it worked for new Access Points
  15. Clicking a building object with the GetInfo tool while the building list was open would get an error
  16. Midsheath operations are no longer halted and rolled back if they find objects in the related spans that are not touching, as that can be corrected later, and doesn't need to hold up input. A warning is displayed in the Edit Log, however
  17. The End Point Schematic has been upgraded to Beta state. It doesn't handle splitters at this point
  18. The Patch editor is now showing the equipment.suffix after the equipment.name value
  19. The span.length field wasn't locked from directed editing in the cable span editor or the cable span list, (the value is derived)

TIPS

  1. Add a file called 'showdebugger' to your \Edit\ directory to get detailed query duration and operation information during a midsheath or splice key update

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. The Route schematic is still disabled, pending further updates for stability and compatibility with the new data structure
  2. OSPInSight will periodically crash for unknown reasons. It seems to happen more frequently on some computers than others. Make sure you save your updates often, and back up your data. We are working on a fix for this issue.

  6. Deleting objects through the dataview right-click menu or the lists doesn't automatically save the map layer...meaning you should manually save it. This will be addressed in the next release.
Workaround: manually save the mapinfo layers after deleting from the right-click menu in the dataview or the lists.
  7. Sometimes when a user leaves a PC (while OSPInSight is running) long enough for it to lock, or for the screensaver to engage, OSPInSight will hang. When the user returns, he find he has to reboot to restore normal functionality to his computer. We are working on a fix for this
  8. Editing in the new lists still has a few issues, such as fields look like they have lost data, navigating with arrows or tab seems odd, and dropdowns sometimes don't match the value placed in the field. We are working on fixes for these issues

OSPInSight Edit 7.0.26 Release Notes
10/Mar/2008

FIXES

  1. Multiuser editing in Oracle has been upgraded to lock tables when inserting, modifying or deleting data, preventing unique constraint errors. This still needs to be done in a couple spots, like super and inner ducts, but it has been added for midsheaths, equipment, splitters, the standard editor, room/rack editor, etc.
  2. Ctrl+D wasn't refreshing the map
  3. The application crash has been worked on, which should prevent it from occuring
  4. Custom object styles->Custom category wasn't working
  5. Mass Saved Route editor has been added as a menu item to the Tools menu
  6. The fault locations weren't displaying in Google Earth
  7. Moving items in the 'dropdown list' editor up or down would give an error
  8. The "Orphan object found, it will now be mapped" should no longer show up. OSPInSight Edit will ignore orphans during input, and the orphan objects can be fixed later during integrity checks
  9. Added the "suffix" value to the equipment display name in the patch editor

TIPS

  1. If a splice key is opening or populating the strands slowly, uncheck the option to "only show strands that are not part of a saved route" and save the layout like that.

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. The Route and End Point schematics are still disabled because, while we worked on them, we didn't finish the fixes. They should be addressed in 7.0.27
  2. The Splice schematic needs some aesthetics updates
  5. The Taper report runs somewhat slower than it did in 6.0, since it runs routes one at a time, rather than based on groups. We are working on ways to improve it's performance.
  6. On some computers, editors, lists, reports and mapinfo windows (info tool, layer control) open behind the main OSPInSight window.
Workaround: Click the application near it's toolbars, or click the taskbar button for OSPInSight to pull those windows back up. We are working on a fix.
  9. Deleting items from the lists also sometimes removes rows from the dataview...whatever category is selected. It doesn't delete anything from the database. When you hit update in any list to finalize deletions, rows start disappearing from the dataview.
  10. Deleting objects through the dataview right-click menu or the lists doesn't automatically save the map layer...meaning you should manually save it. This will be addressed in the next release.
Workaround: manually save the mapinfo layers after deleting from the right-click menu in the dataview or the lists.

OSPInSight Edit 7.0.25 Release Notes
15/Feb/2008

FIXES

  1. The midsheath operation had some integrity checks that slowed the process down, and were wrong sometimes. These have been removed, fixed, or sped up
  2. Terminations could not be deleted in the Termination Assignments report
  3. The 'Ports' list had a 'delete' button that would actually delete the port records. This caused problems, and the delete button has been removed
  4. Performing a Find Route or a Route Detail from equipment ports wasn't working
  5. In the Saved Route editor, some of the route detail dropdowns weren't working
  6. The Route Detail options were sometimes not saving
  7. The Save Layout function was not working sometimes for the taper or route details
  8. The Search feature in the Dataview wasn't working
  9. Custom Style editor, and the function itself when inputting objects was failing
  10. The Find Route had various inconsistencies that have been corrected.
  11. Saved Route units have been updated
  12. Mass Enumerator has some new options, and the product description is working
  13. The Mass Enumerator was getting an Invalid Use of Null error in certain circumstances
  14. The Mass Saved Route feature was getting a 'missing right parenthesis' when used in Oracle
  15. In Edit Options->Defaults, if you selected Duct Bank->Start Place, it gave an error
  16. The default List row height has been decreased, similar to pre 7.0.24 lists

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. When multiple users attempt to commit midsheath operations on the same Oracle network, sometimes one user will receive an Ora-00001 Unique Constraint error. Or sometimes the lock preventing one user from finishing until the previous is done, allows the second user to continue too soon. Either way, the integrity checks catch this problem, and gracefully roll back the operation. Simply retry the midsheath if this is the case, and it should succeed if it was caused by a multi-user conflict. If it still fails based on an integrity error, then the integrity error should be corrected.
  2. The Route and End Point schematics are still disabled because they weren't addressed in this release. They should be addressed in 7.0.26
  3. The Splice schematic needs some aesthetics updates
  4. The Splice Key Editor populates and updates very slowly. There is currently no workaround, but this should be addressed in 7.0.26
  7. OSPInSight typically crashes on Exit. This doesn't cause any data loss or prevent backups or any other functions from running. We are working on a fix.
  8. Sometimes when a user leaves a PC (while OSPInSight is running) long enough for it to lock, or for the screensaver to engage, OSPInSight will hang. When the user returns, he find he has to reboot to restore normal functionality to his computer. We are working on a fix for this
  9. Editing in the new lists still has a few issues, such as fields look like they have lost data, navigating with arrows or tab seems odd, and dropdowns sometimes don't match the value placed in the field. We are working on fixes for these issues
  10. OSPInSight will periodically crash for unknown reasons. It seems to happen more frequently on some computers than others. Make sure you save your updates often, and back up your data. We are working on a fix for this issue.
  11. Deleting items from the lists also removes rows from the dataview...whatever category is selected. It doesn't delete anything from the database. When you hit update in any list to finalize deletions, rows start disappearing from the dataview.

OSPInSight Edit 7.0.24 Release Notes
29/Jan/2008

NEW FEATURES

  1. The Visio Application window can now be opened as a separate standalone window. You can set whether you would like it to open as a tab or as a free window in the Options->Display Options->Miscellaneous tab.
  2. Saved Routes can now be created and updated en masse. Right-click the Saved Routes category in the dataview, and select Update Saved Route. This feature is pretty new, and will be expanded in future releases, but it has the following tabs:
    • Changed Routes - This will currently show all routes that have been affected by midsheaths. In future releases it will show all routes that have been effected in any way, including splicing, patching, cable or termination point deletions, etc. You can select them and click 'Update' to update those routes.
    • All Routes - This is a list of all saved routes in your network, and allows you to re-run all of them from the specified start point (port or cable strand)
    • Mass Creation - This tab allows you to create new saved routes for every port in a piece of equipment or termination point; for every port in a building; or for every port in the network.
The purpose of the Saved Routes is to allow reporting on fiber usage and status, ownership, etc, similar to the CSA in version 6.0. The reports that use this information will be included in future versions.

FIXES

There have been many fixes included in this release, more than are listed here, but these are some of the main ones.
  1. The main focus of this release has been consolidation of the database structure. We previously ran into problems when the database structure wasn't 100% consistent, however in this version the database structure will be updated to our new baseline.
  2. The lists were inconsistent when they opened, in that sometimes they wouldn't populate with data. We completely overhauled the lists to use a new data control. There are still some issues with navigating with arrow keys, but all the functions work, such as editing and deleting data, re-ordering, queries by data and by map regions.
  3. Changing a Cable Span Typeid is allowed in this version, but only if the number of strands is not reduced. This will be addressed in the next release
  4. The Custom Style Editor wasn't working, as the Value field was missing, which is now fixed
  5. Once again we have made many changes to the Midsheath operation, such that the integrity is more robust and it won't get errors in certain scenarios.
  6. The Find Route will now properly show both directions
  7. A disturbing message indicating that you would be deleting strands or ports would appear sometimes when saving a new cable or termination point.
  8. Opening a MapInfo table browser would disable the map toolbars, and make it difficult to get them re-enabled.
  9. InstallDate wasn't showing up in the editors.
  10. Termination Assignments report would sometimes open up blank
  11. Deleting Documents from the Dataview and the lists now works

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. Route and End Point Schematics were not addressed in this release, and hence their menu items have been removed from the Reports dropdown menu. They didn't give correct results and sometimes crashed the application. They will be addressed in our next release.
  2. The lists have some problems when navigating with the arrow keys.
  3. Changing the cable span typeid such that the number of strands is reduced is not allowed in this version. It should be available in the next release.
  4. In the Labeling Defaults, if you have the "Auto label layer." option selected for documents, you will get an error upon network load: Variable or Field filename not defined
  5. Opening the splice editor or the patch editor can take a while to load, if there is a lot of data. This will be addressed in the next release.
  6. The Tab and Dock Form buttons were causing errors. They have been removed for this release. They should be restored in a future release.
  7. Edits performed in the Termination Assignments report are not saved correctly. This should be corrected in the next release.
Workaround: Perform edits in the termination panel
  8. Show Route button in the Terminations Assignments report shows the route, but opens the route details form with no data

OSPInSight Edit 7.0.23 Release Notes
29/Nov/07

NEW FEATURES

  1. In the Display Options->Misc, you now have the option to display or hide 5 buttons in the dataview: label, more, edit, map and relations
  2. A route detail report can be run but right clicking a cable span, selecting More, then selecting route detail
  3. In Options->Display Option->Data View, there is now an option to display the category object counts, which is enabled by default
  4. When running a route detail from a cable span, the span is marked with a green triangle, and the route end points are marked with either red or orange triangles, depending on which direction they are in relation to the original cable span
  5. In Display Options->Dataview you can now order your Dataview categories, and put the most frequently used ones at the top

FIXES

  1. The span list will pull up all spans now, rather than only ones that have a valid reelid, workordierid and spantypeid value
  2. Update and Cancel buttons have been added to the patch editor
  3. Midsheathing in certain circumstances (where the new cable had a slack) didn't update related splices or terminations
  4. Find route mapping has been corrected
  5. Find fault distances and markers are working
  6. Taper report display, distances, routing and ordering has been corrected
  7. The End Points tab in the Termination Panel is now showing distances and the end objects correctly
  8. The patch editor layout will now save correctly

NOTES

  1. Changing the spantype for existing cable spans has been temporarily disabled in this version. In our testing we ran into some integrity problems that it was causing, but they should be fixed and the ability to change spantype should be available again in the next version
  2. Changing the 'position' value for a termination in the Termination Assignments report has been disabled in this version due to integrity problems that it was causing
  3. Some forms may open mostly transparent. Increase the opacity with Ctrl+p, then press Ctrl+s to save it

KNOWN ISSUES

  1. Schematics are still not completed
  2. Splitter information is not converted from 6.0 to 7.0. If you have splitters in your network, you might want to hold off on converting.
  3. Some defaults still need to be finalized, such as 'use last input', or form size and location
  4. OSPInSight usually crashes upon exit. We are working on this issue
  5. Conversions for now will be handled by Advance Fiber. Integrity issues must be corrected by the company responsible for maintaining the database
  6. Simultaneous midsheath and clicking "update and edit splice key" gives a unique constraint violated error sometimes
  7. Performing a find fault where the fault ends up on a patch cord will not show the map marker
  8. Some times editors or other forms disappear behind the main OSPInSight window
  9. Creating and Patching equipment still needs to be more thoroughly tested.
  10. The Visio Rackview 'mass enumerator' has been included
  11. Re-ordering a list by a foreign key column causes an error
Workaround: Re-open the list to get rid of the error

TIPS

  1. The attribute data stored in the MapInfo layers about your network objects is based on a snapshot of the data. When you modify the attribute data for single objects, the map layer's snapshot of that data will also be updated. However when you modify data in the lists or for hardware type that will ripple through the layer, you have the option to not update immediately. If that's the case you can manually synchronize the data in the database with the snapshot of the data on the maps through the Data Linker
  2. The Terminations list has been replaced by the Terminations Assignment report and the Ports list. The Terminations Assignment report take a while to generate, much longer than the 6.x Terminations list. Changing Groups can be done in the Ports list.
